Book List Biography

Question: Can I have some tips on writing a celebrity book?

So, I want to write a book about my favorite celebrity, I won't list who though for now. I've never written a book or attempted too, but I have however thought about it for the longest time. I wanna write one about my inspiration but I want tips on how to make it a good book. I also wanna know what I should include in my book (its not a biography) if I'm writing about my favorite celebrity. So far, I've got the following in mind that I will include..

-Why their my inspiration
-What makes them unique
-Stories or moments I've had with or thought of having with that person (fantasy kind of thing)
-Also,my best concert experiences (for that person ONLY)

Things like that u know? I mean of course it WILL be more organized then that! haha. But anyways, I really need help. Thanks =)
If u can't help out, it'd be great if u could send me a link to a site with great tips/ideas.
Also..if u know how I can get a book published, please also let me know! Thanks again =)

Answer: I have a fairly crappy book about "my" celebrity. The author, and I use the term loosely, apparently simply read US magazines' articles, paraphrased their content to break the person's life into segments like Childhood, Teen Years, Early Career, Stardom, and such, and somehow got a publishing deal out of it.

It was utter crap, and any fan of this person learned nothing new and got no insight into who he is or how he approaches his work.

So while that sort of book was publishable eight or ten years ago, I doubt it is now. You will need to bring something to the work that dedicated fans don't already know.

How? There are several things you can consider. One is research articles published outside the US, especially in foreign languages. You would probably have to find and pay a translator to put them into idiomatic English. Japan, the UK, and other parts of Europe have a fan culture that makes the US pale in comparison. Another is to seek anything and everything about the person which is a matter of public record--arrests, deeds to property, accident reports, etc. I don't know what else is public. That'll take some legwork, but the Freedom of Information Act is your ally. And last, you need to seek interviews (by phone is adequate, but in person is a lot better and likely to get you better information) with people who have known your celebrity or know him/her currently and will talk about his/her personal or professional life. You'd have to be adept at drawing out personal tidbits, and later confirming their truth through a second source, just like reporters do.

If you are willing to go to this level of effort, you can probably find a publisher, if your celebrity is still 'hot' when you are done.

Peter Elkind's new book, 'Rough Justice,' looks at the rise and fall of Eliot Spitzer. Was it his taste for prostitutes that brought down New York's high-flying governor? Or a conspiracy?
