Answer: The Mongols were masters of maneuver warfare – and master horsemen (they actually rode ponies). The Chinese lacked good horses – and depended on buying them from various tribes to the North.
The Mongols could move long distances quickly – arriving in cities before they could raise a strong military force – and once on the field of battle could quickly exploit enemy gaps and avoid enemy surfaces.
