Write 500 words about this artist like, a biography?
Or, write 500 words about this guy and his art?

Answer: Usually thats like the same thing.

Use the five paragraph rule. First paragraph; intro, last paragraph; colclusion and the three body paragraphs you can split between background info on the artist, his/her art, and your perspective of astist and his/er art.
