Question: Would you consider Julius Caesar a hero or the antagonist?

I've read a biography on Caesar and a book on the wars in Gaul. He was a very intelligent military general and a brilliant tyrant. After watching the series Rome, I hated how he slapped women around. Was it better to have an Empire or a Republic?

Answer: In the Shakespeare play, I find Julius Caesar simply annoying. He doesn't really do much other than talk so no wonder he ends up dead. He listens to people, talks to people, places the blame for his choices on others and then dies.

Certainly not a hero and not calculating enough to be an antagonist, he's just there.
