Question: Why do we idolize Henry Ford so much?

henry ford was a blatantly anti-semitic person who wrote a book denouncing the jews and their conspiracy to control the world. He was also a close friend of Adolf Hitler, who admired Ford greatly. So why on earth do we idolize this guy so much??

Answer: As far as the friendship with Hitler, remember that Hitler was popularly elected and was considered a bold thinker and reformer. Lots of people, even lots of Americans admired Hitler at first, (watch Leni Refenstahl's Triumph of the Will for classic 'spin' on Hitler that doesn't ever address any issues with Jews). Hitler also saw how the economy of America was industrialized due in no small part to the rise of the American auto industry. The Volkwagon is, by definition, the car of the people, and like Ford, Hitler wanted to mass produce a vehicle that would allow the German people the kind of mobility that he saw happening in the States. As far as Ford's admiration for Hitler, the anti-Semitism was a factor, but Lindbergh also had anti-Semitism issues and was practically worshipped by the American public. Mainly, I think that the attraction between Hitler and Ford is a mutual admiration society. It's hard not to like, at least initially, someone who thinks that you're great.

We know that Ford wasn't the first American to invent the horseless carriage, but he was the first industrialist to get all aspects of the auto industry set up so that supply & demand, as well as affordability & dependability were all addressed successfully. Those early Fords were built to withstand an amazing amount of punishment, (paved roads were still almost a novelty) and when repairs did need to be made, the parts were cheap and uniformly fitted so as to be almost 'idiot proof'. The fact that you can still see old early model Fords on the roads today, after nearly a century, is proof of Ford's accomplishments.

Now we know history can be taught in engaging vignettes

“Jack Cooper’s Who Knew?! Unusual Stories in Jewish History” is a catchy title suggestive of a supermarket tabloid or a Jewish version of “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” But bypassing the book for that reason is to risk missing more than 200 mostly fascinating episodes in Jewish history.
