Question: Who are the main characters of Julius Caesar? The one by William Shakespeare?

I've been reading Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and I need help figuring out who the main characters are. I know Brutus is one of them but I'm not sure if there are more?
Answer: This is a great question, because the identity of the main character in Julius Caesar is far from clear. Here are some of the cases for each of the four protagonists:
Julius Caesar - Well, the play is named after him, and if it wasn't for his egotistical personality, you wouldn't have a play.
Mark Antony - A brilliant orator, he drives the action of the play by delivering an incredibly well-crafted speech to the crowd just after Caesar's murder.
Brutus - A respected Roman who always tries to do the right thing, or at least convinces himself that that's what he is doing. He genuinely hates tyranny and wants democracy in Rome.
Cassius - A manipulative character, Cassius is the one who brings Brutus on board with the conspiracy and convinces him that Caesar must die for the good of Rome.

2. As for your 2nd passage, He's just asking everyone in the audience to listen. He saying he hasn't come to say a whole bunch of nice things about caesar, he's come to bury him. like he's just there speaking at his funeral. Then he goes on to say that basically people only remember the bad things a person has done after they are dead, and all of the good things are buried with them.

Answer: I agree that Lord of the Flies would be a good choice, it's a great book and there's a lot to say about it.
BUT
for yourself, if you're not much of a reader and get easily confused, I would highly recommend The Time Machine: it's also a great book, very short, easy to read, and there's also a lot you can say about it; it's both rich and easy to comprehend.

Answer: well, really you should read the material and do your own homework. Julius himself does not commit suicide, search the book, i think a woman speaks of it, maybe even does it. As for your "power of word" part check out the funeral speech's and how people react afterwords, maybe that's it.

Question: Simplified versions of the classics eg - odyssey - iliad - shakespeare - julius caesar etc?

Can someone recommend editions of classic literature which retains the quality of the original but is easier to read for someone whose English vocabulary is not very wide? perhaps a good not oversimplified childrens' version?
Answer: I would suggest that instead you buy a study guide to go with the classics. If you buy a re written version then you Will lose the beauty of the language. Believe me, even people with large vocabularies find all the writers and pieces you a have listed challenging! Coles study guides are good, but I think they might be out of print. But any decent study guide should be alright.
Try to go and see a production of the Shakespeare play that you are studying. Only this will truly bring the story alive for you.

Question: Recommend a book? Read 3 Book Series, LOTR, Harry Potter and Julius Caesar - Emperor (Conn Iggulden)?

Hiya - I need someone to recommend a book. I suppose I have liked everything I have read so far. I never used to read books but read Lord of the Rings because I liked the films, I read Harry Potter because my wifes brother loved them and said there was a twist. So I was into the Fictional magical type books then. Then my friend recommended me to get out of this habit and read the Emperor series by Conn Iggulden all about Julius Caesar. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
Now I am reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and after about a third of it, I'm not that inspired to finish it at the moment.
Can someone recommend a book series, preferable a big one, similar to magic, fiction, something that makes you feel a kid. But I also loved the Emperor series, really surprised.
I will buy the Genghis: Birth of an Empire series soon though.

Answer: I often advise people to read the Gormenghast Trilogy. Normally i do this in the full knowledge that they probably wont bother, but after what you have said, i implore you; please, please for your own sake read it.
You will love it.
Ack... I am almost distraught in the fact that i cant express with this keyboard and this computer how deeply i love that book, and how heavily i advise you to read it. If you think you have a newfound love of literature now, once you finish those books you will feel like you have transcended - the use of language is so incredible. I have to go now - i have to go read some of my favourite passages again.

Question: Who is the protagonist of the play Julius caesar?

Literary scholars have debated for centuries about the question of who exactly is the protagonist of this play. The seemingly simple answer to this question would be Julius Caesar himself—after all, the play is named after him, and the events of the play all relate to him. However, Caesar only appears in three scenes (four if the ghost is included), thus apparently making him an unlikely choice for the protagonist who is supposed to be the main character. Meanwhile, Brutus, who is in the play much more often than Caesar (and actually lasts until the final scene), is not the title character of the play and is listed in the dramatis personae not only after Caesar but after the entire triumvirate and some senators who barely appear in the play. Determining the protagonist is one of the many engaging issues presented in the play.

Answer: The protagonist is not always the good guy. But in this case I would say it is and go with Mark Anthony as the protagonist. Did he not give the "Friends, Romans, countrymen" speech? And is that not the most famous line in the play, if not one of the most famous in Shakespeare's work? I think you could argue it is.

What Julius Caesar movie (Shakespeare) is best to show to a high school audience? I've noticed three so far: a Marlon Brando version, a BBC version, and a Charlton Heston version. Any recommendations?
