Genghis Khan

Question: What type of horses were ridden by Genghis Khan?

I was reading about the native wild horses of Mongolia-Presenkies horse?( Sorry about the spelling) I read that they are untameable and wondered if another type of horse was available to them. Can anybody give me more information on this please?
Thanks for your replies but the American wild horses I believe were descendants of the horses brought over by the Conquistadors so they were Arab blood. The Mongolian horses are of a very different type-they are almost like non-striped zebras.
What I really wanted to know was if they were riding Przewalski’s Horse (got the spelling right this time) because they are reputed to be untameable. Also they have a different number of chromosones to domesticated horses. As far as my research has been able to discover the Mongols rode domesticated horses which are different to Przewalski’s horse. I just wondered if anybody knew.

Answer: Genghis Khan and his descendents could not have conquered and ruled the largest land empire in world history without their diminutive but extremely hardy steeds. In some respects, these Mongolian ponies resembled what is now known as Prezwalski’s horse. Mongols held these horses in highest regard and accorded them great spiritual significance. Before setting forth on military expeditions, for example, commanders would scatter mare’s milk on the earth to insure victory. In shamanic rituals, horses were sacrificed to provide “transport” to heaven.
