Answer: No. Cars as we know them (gasoline-powered) were first invented by Karl Benz. If that name sounds familiar to you, it's because the "Benz" in "Mercedes-Benz" comes from (you guessed it) Karl Benz.

What Henry Ford did invent is the assembly line, which is just as important as the invention of the car, if not more-so. The assembly line drove costs down by making the build process more efficient: more products could be pushed through the door by relatively unskilled workers. To give you an idea of how important the creation of the assembly line process is to United States history, think about this: had the assembly line not been invented by World Wars 1 & 2, it isn't likely that America would have come out victorious.
