Question: Why did Julius Caesar cross the Rubicon? Why did he stop fighting when his murderers were…?

Answer: Caesar was coming off 10 years as a proconsul in Gaul where he was immune from prosecution as long as he held his proconsular imperium. His enemies in Rome were planning to prosecute him for alleged (and in large part real) illegalities prior to going to Gaul and for grossly overstepping his authority while in Gaul. His options were to lay down his imperium and get buried by his enemies in Rome or to march on Rome with his troops and take the place over. He chose the latter, and not without precedent, Sulla having done much the same a couple of decades earlier.

The story of his assassination is mostly myth and legend but “stopped fighting” isn’t exactly correct. The custom of Romans was to not allow your face to be visible to your enemies as you died in battle or, as here, while being assassinated. It had a long history. Once you knew it was hopeless you drew your toga over your face so your enemies couldn’t see your agony and “death face”.

Answer: With an engineering degree you could go to work for the defense industry in the US. You could design planes, ships, guns, bombs, and other ways to kill literally hundreds of thousands of people! And the cool thing is you don’t get any blood on you! With a gun or knife or something, you’d have to kill them one at a time, then dispose of bodies and all that, it gets messy. But with the US military you can kill whole cities full of people, mostly innocent women and children and old people, and you can pretend you’re saving the world! Question: How and why does the Henry Ford Museum have Lincoln’s assassination chair?

I live right by the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn MI and I have always wondered how we received Abraham Lincoln’s assassination chair (the chair he was sitting in when she was killed). Does anyone know how the museum inherited this chair. Also, is this the 100% actual chair that he was killed in? Thanks in advance!

Answer: i thought that pres lincoln was assassinated at the ford theater. maybe they turned it into a museum. he was sitting on the top balcony.
