Julius Caesar Dictatorship

Julius Caesar Dictatorship

Question: why did the dictatorship of julius caesar arouse strong senatorial opposition?

Answer: A “dictator for life” was a threat to the senate, and to the ideals of the republic which had started 450 years earlier when the Romans had gotten rid of another dictator, the cruel King Tarquin. The Roman senators did not want to return to the time of dictators or kings. Besides, Julius Caesar had made many enemies in Rome.

There were more than sixty conspirators . Many had been Caesar’s close friends. Their reasons for joining the plot were many. Some were personal. They felt Caesar had disrespected them or their families. Others were ideological. The idea of a dictator for life was against every democratic idea of the Republic. And everyone knew that under Caesar’s dictatorship, their opportunities for financial gain and political power would vanish. The power of the Senate would be lost.

Q&A: The Life of Julius Caesar

Question: Who Was Julius Caesar?

Answer: Julius Caesar was one of the greatest ever rulers of Rome.

He started off as an underachiever but eventually made an impressive political and Military career, becoming the First “Caesar,” long known as the greatest ruler and conqueror in the Roman Empire.

There were many stories and plays written about Julius Caesar such as the not-so-accurate tale by William Shakespeare. Eventually, Julius Caesar met with a tragic death as he was assassinated in public.

Question: When was Julius Caesar born?

Answer: Julius Caesar was born on either July 12th or 13th, probably in the year 100 B.C.

The actual date and time when Julius Caesar was born have been debated. Some historians put when Julius Caesar was born a little earlier than 100 BC, in the year 102 BC.

It is in fact a fascinating debate because Julius Caesar himself was the originator of the calendar we use today… The Caesarean calendar. So naturally it is difficult to accurately place someone’s birthday who had yet to invent the calendar!

Question: What was Julius Caesar’s full name?

Answer: The full name of Julius Caesar was Gaius Julius Caesar. Gaius Julius Caesar was also the name of Julius Caesar’s father and his grandfather aw well. Family names often started as nicknames and it is said that Caesar simply meant “hairy.”

Considering that the word Caesar would go on to mean Emperor in many different languages (even becoming the word ‘Czar’ in Russian) this is a very lowly and humorous origin for such a powerful word.

Question: Where was Julius Caesar born?

Answer: There are a few legends of when and where Julius Caesar was born. Some believed that Julius Caesar was descended from the gods and was pulled forth from an incision in his mother’s body. This gave rise to the modern term for surgical births called the Caesarean section.

Julius Caesar Legacy

Julius Caesar Legacy

Question: Why is Julius Caesar a hero?

I DO NOT want info as to why he was a villain. Tell me all the good he did for Rome and the legacies he left, etc… Links would be much appreciated.

Answer: He conquered Gaul, which would prove lucrative for the Roman Empire in the future, and despite what most people say about him starting a civil war and how that was bad and all, it did unite Rome and make it stronger in the end.

The senators in Rome and the consuls were all seeking power, and the Republic was divided and corrupt, and even when he was assassinated, he paved the way for his adoptive son Augustus, who was one of the best leaders Rome ever had, and brought Rome to new heights of prosperity and wealth.

Also he created a very accurate calender that was widely used for hundreds of years, we use a modified version of the calender he created today.

He was a hero to the Roman people and a champion to the poor and the middle class.

He was officially deified by the senate after his death, and was worshiped around the empire for hundreds of years after his death.

He made the government in Rome more efficient, and was regarded by many as one of the greatest military commanders who have ever lived.

Despite being hated by many of his wealthy peers, he was loved by the common people and instituted many reforms that benefited the needy and less fortunate, and was always popular with the masses, and the Roman Military.

He died at the height of power and glory, loved by the people he ruled, what more could be asked for in a lifetime?

sorry no links, doing all this from memory =D
