Hi
I'm have to do a dramatic recitation on Julius Caesar this Tuesday and it's the 27 lines that Brutus speaks here http://nfs.sparknotes.com/juliuscaesar/page_58.html However I'm am suppose to act as well. So I need advice as to movements, emphasis, props etc to use and when. Thanks
Andrew
Answer: Do you know what Brutus is doing during his talk? I do not know but as a former drama instructor I can tell you this:
If he is talking to a group, do the same, use your audience as the senate or whatever. Look into their eyes one after the other and use hand gestures to emphasize your points. Do not "act out" with your hands but do as a normal person would. ("act out" means you do not flap your arms if you talk about flying and you do not hold your hands to your heart if you talk about love.)
If he is talking to an individual, use a real person or a chair and do the same. Concentrate on the chair as if it was listening to you and you are trying to convince it with your argument. Walk around it, put your hand on it's shoulders if the content of the talk seems to indicate it.
If this is the talk with the skull and you have no skull, then choose something strange like a GI Joe doll. If you maintain your composure and you stay in character, the doll indicates that you can act in any circumstance.
