Question: Freelance Sources?

I may not be asking this question in the correct category, but perhaps some of you may be able to answer it. I want to freelance an article for a local newspaper, it will be about 1000 word long. I plan on doing a biography of someone like Henry Ford or Thomas Edison or maybe a past President of the United States.

A friend told me I should have at least 5 cross references for each fact I use, just to make sure I have all the facts correct so I can't be sued for something that's published that’s incorrect. If this is true, how do editors feel about internet resources? Most of my references will probably come from an encyclopedia or library book.

Is this something I need to be concerned about, or are newspaper editors not that concerned? Thanks.

Question: How and why does the Henry Ford Museum have Lincoln's assassination chair?

I live right by the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn MI and I have always wondered how we received Abraham Lincoln's assassination chair (the chair he was sitting in when she was killed). Does anyone know how the museum inherited this chair. Also, is this the 100% actual chair that he was killed in? Thanks in advance!

Question: Relationship between Adolf Hitler & Henry Ford?

Does anyone know where I can find further information about Adolf Hitler's (German tyrant) and Henry Ford's (creator of Ford Motors) relationship?

I'm writing a paper on how reliable the rumors are of Ford having a helping hand in the idea/design of the gas chambers.

I've already looked on WIKI and didn't find anything of this sort, probably because they are only rumors after all. All it mentions is that Hitler revered Ford's anti-semetic views and had a photo of Ford up in his office.

I remember it being mentioned in a book also, but I've flipped through a few of mine and found nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Question: Was Gerald Ford related to the Henry for family through marriage?

Answer: Remember that Gerald Ford was adopted early on through a new marriage partner for his mother, and so was not a "Ford" to begin with - I believe his last name was "King."

So he really wasn't related to any other Fords, since he was not born of a Ford, but his mother married one. "Related by marriage" is a misnomer.

About 750,000 tourists visit the park every year with about 450,000 of them visiting Punta Nizuc, an area of just four hectares. This creates tremendous pressure on natural coral reefs. Lesser number of tourists will hopefully allow the coral in the reef to regenerate. Coral reefs attract marine life like colorful fishes, turtles, sea urchins, sponges, and sharks and also provide shelter to sea creatures to breed or take refuge.

The project has an initial budget of $350,000, with Mexican government been the major contributor. The rest of the funds have been donated by organizations and individuals for development of Cancun. Museum's first phase is slated to be completed by May 2011, by which 400 sculptures will be submerged. The cost of each statue will be between $875 and $1000 US. The Underwater Sculpture Museum will eventually have 27 rooms.

According to Mr. de Caires Taylor, the sculptor, the sculptures have been designed to be durable and since neutral ph concrete has been used, there will be no detrimental effect on the local ecosystem.

The Cancun Underwater Sculpture Museum can be visited by diving and snorkelers with professional guides. The tour will cost between $40 and $60 US. The underwater trip promises to be a very unique and exciting experience for tourists and locals alike.

About 20km from Amsterdam is the typical Dutch village Volendam situated. It is a small village which was established round 1357 by some farmers and fisherman. A lot of painters came to the village in the second half of the nineteenth century to be inspired by the characteristic village with its inhabitants wearing folkloric costumes. Fifty years later tourist started to come to Volendam and since 1920 a lot of Americans visited our village. Nowadays Volendam is a city with 21.000 inhabitants, but it still has its characteristic of the early days of its existence.

On a summer day in 1925 Pouw de Boer, founder of Photo De Boer, saw some Americans and inhabitants of Volendam having a lot of fun changing clothes with each other. Pouw saw a business opportunity and turned his bakery into a photo studio. Tourist could have taken a photo by Pouw in the traditional costume. This turned out to be a major success. The bakery moved over and the family De Boer focused on tourism completely. They build up a range of souvenirs and professionalized the photo studio.

Volendam changed throughout the years. The folkloric costumes steady disappeared out of the street scene. A lucky coincidence for the family, because the request for photos increased as the costumes became more and more exclusive. Celebrities had their photo taken and tourist came from all over the world due to an increasing prosperity.

In a tumultuous century this cozy shop continued to be the preferred address for making a photo in the folkloric costume. Question: Moving to Detroit to work at Henry Ford Hospital. Any ideas on where to live?

I would prefer a short commute around 20 minutes and nothing too suburban (no kids).

Answer: Which one? There are different branches. I'd say your best bet would be Royal Oak. It's close enough to most of them and is a nice area with a lot of younger (20-30 yrs old) people. It can be on the more expensive side in some areas. But it has a great night life and tons of stuff to do during the day too.
