Question: What word could you fill in?

Hi, I am making a biography on Nikola Tesla and I am jotting down notes of a book that I'm reading. The sentence says "He received over 100 patents". I am trying to put it in a downgraded sentence but I cant find the right way.

Answer: Tesla 'obtained' or 'aquired' almost 300 patents for his inventions and developments.
or
Almost 300 patents were 'issued' to Tesla for.....
P.S.
Kind of hard to downgrade Tesla's accomplishments, except to say he was eccentric.
